I would like to share with you all that anyone who is or wants to use our blog system; that we have now added Akismet spam protection.
That means that you are now pretty much protected against spam bots that queries blog systems to automatically add comments to your posted articles as well adding trackback links at your blog entries to posted spam elsewhere.
How does it work?
When a new comment, trackback, or pingback comes to your blog it is submitted to the Akismet web service which runs hundreds of tests on the comment and returns a http://www.theexiled...lt/thumbsup.gif or http://www.theexiled...thumbsdown.gif.
Where does the spam go if we get a http://www.theexiled.../thumbsdown.gif ?
When Akismet catches something as spam it is currently configured to queue the submission for your approval. Akismet saves the submission in the database for 15 days in case it should be checked out manually and then automatically deletes it. If it happens that this seems not to be doable at our end; in case we get hit that much and have to go through an endless list of unapproved submissions; we may decide to delete/ignore submitted messages that are identified as spam by Akismet.
Note that this is only used at our blog system. A global spam protection using a central database will be added soon for our forum, gallery and other scripts we may install in the next future.
