Flagging Accounts as Spammers

If you are a moderator, the administrator may have allowed you the ability to mark an account as a spammer - depending on how the administrator has configured the system, this may prevent the member from making any more posts, unapprove all their existing accounts and/or ban the account.

When viewing a topic, you will see a http://www.theexiled.../user_popup.png icon next to the members display name - clicking this will open the user's popup card. At the bottom of this, you will see a number of buttons to, view all user's topics and so on. If you have the ability to flag a member as a spammer, when viewing a post you will see a http://www.theexiled...spammer_off.png icon. You will also see this icon in user's profiles. Clicking on this icon will flag the user as a spammer, and take the action that the administrator has set up.

Currently we have setup the actions:

Administrators get notified that a member has been flagged as a spammer.

The flagged member will instantly get all new posts to be validated for approval for the next 3 days.

When a moderator or administrator flags a member for spamming, creation of posts and private messaging from the spammer will be disabled and all current posts by the member will be set as unapproved.

When a moderator or administrator flags a member for spamming, the spammer will be reported to IPS for inclusion in the spam database.

Announcements

Moderators can post announcements in the community using the Manage Announcements link at the very top left corner of the page. Announcements show at the very top of selected forums chosen for as long as the moderator chooses.

From within the Manage Announcements page, you can manage the existing announcements, or click "Add Announcement" to add a new. When posting an announcement, you can choose which forums it is shown in and, if needed, the start and end date for the announcement which is useful for time-sensitive events.

Other announcements:
As you know we have setup an announcement forum as well. You could post a new topic in this forum directly but be adviced that:

Posting an announcement at our Steam Group will automatically create a new topic within our announcement forum as well. There may be a small delay before the topic is created but it will come so no need to post in both; the steam group and forum as that will result in a double post on the forum.

An new created entry within the group blog The Exiled Gamers will as well be posted within the Announcement forum (again there might be a small delay before it shows up). So you could as well choose to populate our group blog to get the content posted within the Announcement forum.

Warning, Banning, and other Member Controls

Warning, Banning, and other Member Controls
There are various controls a moderator can use to take action on a member without the need for access to the AdminCP.

Edit Member Profile
From time to time a member may put inappropriate content in their signature, status, avatar, or other customizable areas of their member profile. Moderators can go to the member profile and click Edit Member to edit any information they wish on that member's profile.

Warn System
When viewing a topic you will see a warn bar under each posting member's information (also available when viewing a member profile). This accesses the forum's warning system which is a powerful system that allows moderators to make notes and perform action on a member account.

Clicking the text "Warn Status" will show you a record of all notes previously made on this member by other moderators. If you click the - / + icon it brings up the warn control panel where a moderator can make notes, contact the member, unapprove/approve member posts and topics or take such actions as:

Enforce moderator preview of all new posts

Disable this members posting ability

Ban / Suspend member's account

A very useful feature is the ability to make these actions permanent or timed actions. For example, you may have an otherwise good member who is having a bad day and needs to "cool down" so in this case you may choose a 12 hour suspension of the account rather than a permanent ban. The Warn System is the key area for moderators to take action of member accounts.
